One of the most effective ways to get your unconscious mind to "speak" is to allow it to express itself creatively in some way.
So, you are not an artist?" I have one word for you...
DOODLE!
Draw a circle and let a soft leaded art pencil meander around inside the circle. Don't try to draw anything, just keep the images of a recent dream in mind as you allow your pencil, and mind, to wander.
Connect lines and shade in where it "feels right"... or not.
When you are done, write a few words that come to mind from your dream, across the top of your paper. Don't think about it, just write.
Create a sentence from those words adding only words like "and, the, it" etc. and see what clues your psyche has given you.
ART, MUSIC, & NATURE AS A
CONSCIOUS DREAM
Certain works of art have always touched my soul. They have inspired me to try to re-create the emotions I felt when I viewed them by creating a work of my own. I seldom succeeded; what was missing? I had never given that question much thought, believing it was my own lack of artistic ability. I wondered why I related to some works and not to others. I was puzzled by the fact that some works moved me deeply and other pieces left me thinking "incredible artistry" but nothing more.
For me, one such piece of art was "Little Girl in a Blue Armchair" by the impressionist Mary Cassatt.
As I learned more about dreams and archetypes I realized responses such as mine were clues to the events, both wonderful and traumatic, that shape us into the people we become.
With serious soul searching I followed those clues to unresolved issues that were forming my thought patterns and influencing my behavior. I was able to take an honest look at myself, warts and all, and begin making the changes I needed to make to grow as the human and spiritual being I am, that we all are.
The evolution of the human spirit is an ongoing process. By understanding and accepting the reality of who we are we can comprehend the magnitude of who we can be, what we can achieve as an individual and as a species.
Think back to a moment in time when your heart was deeply moved by an image of some kind, whether it was a painting, a statue or some incredible scene in nature. Do you remember that feeling? Do you remember the feeling of awe that brought tears to your eyes?
What was it about that "abiding image" that took you from thinking "wow, what incredible artistry," to your soul being stirred with emotions you could not explain?
Precious moments like that are conscious dreams; they are physical and emotional responses that reveal much of the complex being you are, and why.
Those moments, those conscious dreams, offer opportunities to explore your soul in the same way sleeping dreams do; after all, they come from the same place within you.
Images have the potential to produce a powerful and spontaneous emotional charge, evoking new perceptions on both emotional and cognitive levels. By looking at particular images when we are awake in the same way we look at a dream, the same possibilities for insight and enlightenment occur.
Those involuntary responses to images are your unconscious mind's way of triggering memories of how you became the person you are and how you can become the person you want to be!
Your soul is very clever, it wants you to live your life to its fullest capacity in love, joy and fulfillment; it will do what it has to do to get your attention so you can do just that, and do it consciously.
